A message to students of healthcare sciences

--

We are blessed to be born human.

We must strive to be humane and manifest the inherent Divinity that lies deep within each and every one of us.

We must learn to have humility in our gaining of wisdom and ethical in the imparting of it to the next generation.

We must always remind ourselves that our hospitals exist to serve our needy, ailing and suffering brethren and not just to pay salaries.

We must never lose track that the primary stakeholder of educational institutions must always be the student and not anyone else however high or mighty.

We must maintain our integrity and honour our chosen profession for that is the only way it will remain a “Noble Profession”.

We should understand that our primary focus should always be a humanistic one towards salutogenic wellbeing.

We must be alert so that we don’t get trapped into a reductionist, dehumanizing search that only fuels a pathogenic paradigm.

Selfless service should always be our motto, but we must never let ourselves down by neglecting our own health needs, be them: physical, emotional, mental, social or spiritual.

If you are burnt out, you are of no use to anyone.

So, always do take care of yourself though activities that nourish a mindful self-care.

When you are praised as a God, restrain your inflatable ego; and on the contrary when you are cursed as a devil, retain the trust in your own nobility.

Remember, even if you manage to help just “one” fellow human being out of their suffering in your long career, you have been successful as a healthcare professional.

All the rest is just the Grace of the Divine.

Be blessed, and BE a blessing wherever you are!
